Parent FAQs
Welcome to New Richmond Youth Hockey Association! We know you might have some questions about our youth hockey program. Here are some answers to some of the most common inquiries from parents:
Getting Started:
- My child has never played hockey before. Is your program a good fit? Absolutely! Registration is open to all skill levels, from beginners (learn to skate) to advanced players.
- What age groups do you offer? We have programs for players as young as 4 to 18. You can find a detailed breakdown of our age groups on our registration page: https://www.nryha.net/register
- What equipment do I need to get my child started? We recommend starting with basic equipment like skates, a hockey stick, and proper protective gear.
Registration & Fees:
- How much does it cost to register my child? Our registration fees cover ice time, coaching, league affiliation (if applicable), and administrative costs. The specific fees vary depending on the age group and program level. You can find a breakdown of fees on our registration page: https://www.nryha.net/register
- Do you offer financial assistance? We understand that hockey can be expensive. We offer payment plans to help make our program more accessible. Please reach out to our registrar for more information.
- When does registration open? Registration typically opens in July for the upcoming season. You can find exact dates and deadlines on our website or by contacting our registrar.
Practices & Games:
- How often will my child practice? The frequency of practices varies depending on the age group and program level. Generally, younger players will have fewer practices per week than older players. Specific practice schedules will be available after teams are formed.
- Where will practices and games be held? We utilize several ice rinks surrounding the New Richmond area. Your child's specific practice location and game schedule will be determined after teams are formed.
- What is your commitment level for parents? While we are a volunteer-run organization, parent involvement is required. There are opportunities to volunteer as coaches, team managers, fundraising, operating our concession stand and more!
Additional Resources:
- Can I learn more about the rules of hockey? There are many great resources available online and in libraries to learn about the rules of hockey. Here are a couple to get you started: WAHA: https://www.wahahockey.com/ & USA Hockey https://www.usahockey.com/
